The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Why wouldn’t it be? The weather is amazing, BBQ’s, and {my favorite} Fireworks! I heard that Columbus has one of the best Firework shows in the Midwest and luckily my husband didn’t have to take call for work that weekend so off we went on our Downtown Columbus Vacation.

Downtown Columbus Vacation

As soon as we got to Columbus it was time to get settled in at our hotel, Hilton Columbus Downton. I loved the creativity of that hotel, and our room had some amazing views of the city!

We were within walking distance to everything from entertainment to restaurants. {Stay tuned for my post next week about my favorite restaurants in Cbus}. Seriously, our location was perfect because it’s minutes away from everything you could imagine. Fireworks, professional hockey and baseball, the river, and walking trails.

Columbus is home to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and they play in this impressive arena that holds 18,500 people. Just this year my boys have become particularly obsessed with hockey so seeing the Nationwide Arena was a highlight for them.

Our first night we checked out all of the 4th of July festivities. I was super impressed with all their live entertainment, and their firework show really was amazing! Over 400,000 people attend the event so you know it was a night to remember with that many people dedicated to watching the show each year.

They start the night off with a Parade and shut down Nationwide Boulevard so Columbus’ top restaurants could sell their best dishes to those who attended Red White & Boom! You will not leave hungry, trust me. There was plenty of entertainment all night long as two stages were set up for live, local entertainment. They really thought of everything.

Our second day we spent a lot of time walking on The Scioto Mile, a beautiful walking path right next to the river with outstanding views. I could look at the beautiful architecture of the buildings and bridges in Columbus all day. You can just tell they take a lot of pride in the appearance of their city and I really respect that.

After walking for about a mile we stopped at the Scioto Mile Fountain so the boys could play in the splash pad. Despite walking a lot that day they still had a lot of energy to burn. If you can believe it!

We have never visited a fountain with such unique architecture before. At night they light it up and also have really cool fog effects. So cool!

One of the places everyone told me we had to visit was COSI {Center of Science and Industry}. That is one place we would for sure have a season pass to if we lived nearby. It. Is. Huge! We could have spent everyday for a week there and still not experience everything to the fullest. We had the best time in Cbus, and I’m so happy we made the trip. If you ever get the opportunity I highly recommend it. The food {my favorite part of traveling for sure} was out of this world, and I’m really excited to share that with you next week! So stay tuned for Part II of our Downtown Columbus Vacation.
