I decided to make a Caprese Salad with my amazing Fresh Mozzarella from Formaggio. Have you ever had fresh mozzarella? I mean really fresh? There is nothing like it! This Caprese Salad with Balsamic Syrup would be a perfect dinner party recipe. Just remember to prepare it with your cooking assistant…Cooking Planit!

Caprese Salad with Balsamic Syrup
Recipe from Cooking Planit!
Ingredients

  • 5 Leaves Fresh Basil
  • 1/2 Pound Buffalo Mozzarella Ball
  • Black Pepper
  • 2 Tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Kosher Salt
  • 1 Beefsteak Tomato
  • 1 Tbsp Balsamic Syrup

Instructions

  1. Use a paring knife to cut the core out of the tomato. Then, use a serrated knife to cut the tomato into 1/2 inch thick slices. You need 2 slices per person
  2. Slice the mozzarella and tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices. You need 2 slices per person
  3. Pick large basil leaves off the stems
  4. Season the tomatoes, mozzarella and basil with salt and pepper
  5. Layer the slices of tomato and mozzarella on a serving platter, overlapping them as you go. Insert a whole basil leaf in between every other slice
  6. Drizzle the olive oil and balsamic syrup over the top
    1. Balsamic syrup:
      1. 2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
      2. 1 Tbsp sugar
      3. 1/2 Tbsp water
        1. Combine ingredients together in a small saucepan
        2. Let simmer over medium/low heat for 10 minutes, or until you can coat a spoon. Be careful not to let it boil
