How to Bake Asparagus

I’ll be honest, I’ve always been intimidated by asparagus! Maybe it’s because it is either amazing or so-so when it’s available at restaurants, so I just figured it was really hard to make. Well I have figured out how to bake asparagus perfect every time in the oven! Thank goodness, because I love asparagus.

Follow my popular Eat Your Veggies board on Pinterest!

We all know eating our vegetables is so important, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Or gross! If you love broccoli but aren’t so sure about cauliflower then try adding a little cauliflower to your favorite broccoli dish. Also, don’t be afraid of a vegetable just because you hated it when you were five. Our taste buds change and it would be a pitty if I never tried brussels sprouts again, because they are one of mine {and my son’s} favorite vegetables!

How to Bake Asparagus
Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees
  2. Trim and rinse the asparagus with cold water; drain and dry
    1. The woody part snaps off easily
  3. Place the stalks in a bowl and coat with 1 T of olive oil
  4. Place the asparagus on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, sprayed with oil
  5. Season with salt and pepper, you can even add garlic, red peppers or grated parmesan cheese
  6. Bake until tender-slim stalks 5-6 minutes; thicker stalks about 15 minutes
    1. Pierce with a fork to check if they are complete
  7. Drizzle with lemon or lime juice, or balsamic vinegar
If this tells you anything, my husband said we should make these at least once a week

My oldest son gets so excited to eat asparagus, and it makes me so happy! Now I just wish his younger brother would get on board with being as “adventurous” as he is. Thank heavens for all of the amazingly creative ways we can add vegetables into recipes without anyone being the wiser!

What is your favorite vegetable?

  • I have been making this for a few years now. It's our favorite. This and roasted brussels sprouts! I made them for this Easter Sunday. Goes great with ham and potato salad~

  • We like baked asparagus and I was surprised most of my kids will eat it that way, too. If you have a BBQ grill, try asparagus grilled in a foil packet. We use a little olive oil, salt, and pepper on it. Thank you for linking up with us at the #HomeMattersParty this week.

  • Great recipe for Baked Asparagus! Hope you are having a great week and thanks so much for sharing your awesome post with Full Plate Thursday!

  • When I pierce with a fork, how will I know what "complete" is? Are they supposed to be mushy, crunchy, what? I've always wanted to make asparagus but had no clue! Thanks for sharing this on the TFT link party.

  • This is my favorite way to prepare asparagus too. I often make it with sliced mushrooms and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar when I'm done.

  • Your first sentence grabbed me. I am in the same boat. Looks good, I am going to have to try this! Thanks for sharing this at Dishing It & Digging It Link Party. Have a good week :-)

  • I love asparagus and baking it sounds fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing at Over the Moon link party.
