Vanilla Texas Sheetcake

Who would like to try a bite of this Vanilla Texas Sheetcake in 30 Minutes or less?

My original Chocolate Texas Sheetcake aka 30 minute cake is so popular here on Embellishmints, and in our house, that I had to try this vanilla version and it did not disappoint! Infact I’ve never been more pleased by a dessert. Honest! I’m all about chocolate but man this Vanilla Texas Sheetcake really took the cake …if ya know what I mean.

But let’s be honest, if I was forced to eat a piece of cake I’d totally be happy eating either or.

Vanilla Texas Sheetcake Recipe

Cake:

  • 1 c butter
  • 1 c water
  • 2 c sugar
  • 2-1/4 c flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 c sour cream

Frosting:

  • 1 c butter
  • 6 Tbsp evaporated milk
  • 4-1/2 c powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Add water and butter to a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat until butter is melted
  3. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, flour, salt and baking soda. Stir with a wire whisk until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla
  4. Stir in sour cream and mix until blended
  5. Pour the batter into a well greased 11″x17″ sheet pan
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cake springs back when lightly touched
  7. Remove cake from oven and allow to cool slightly while you prepare the frosting
  8. Place butter and milk into a medium saucepan and heat until butter is melted, and brought to a simmer
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar, vanilla and a dash of salt. Whisk, or mix, until completely smooth

Like I mentioned before, you can’t go wrong trying either of these delicious 30 minute cakes. Chocolate or Vanilla you will create a crowd pleaser with either variety! Just remember to save a piece for me.

  • I made this today and I’m going to have a hard time not eating it all myself! It is so good..can’t wait for my husband to try it!

    • YES!!!! I love hearing that. I'm sure your husband loved it too... and if he didn't, that's ok because that just means more for you ;) haha.

  • I made this cake. The frosting didn’t come out like it was meant to be. However, it was super moist and delicious. Everybody called it a Spice cake. Naming all kind of ingredients. They were surprised when I named only cinnamon. It’s a family fave now. Next, time I’ll get the frosting tight.

    • Hi! Yes I always frost the cake while it's warm. You can definitely wait if you'd like, it just may take you longer than 30 minutes to make if that's the case ;) :)
Have a great day, thanks for your comment. xoxo!

  • I made this for a work potluck and am so proud of it! They all wanted the recipe. It is so moist and the frosting is to die for! I added almond extract to the cake and kept the vanilla extract in the frosting (personal preference). Sooo delicious! My goodness y’all!

    • That's awesome!!! I glad everyone loved it :) It's so yummy, and almost too easy! xoxo.
